The passage I read from in this week’s audio clip is from the Gospel of Philip, a Gnostic gospel from The Nag Hammadi Scriptures. The Gnostic gospels are a collection of mostly lost writings by early Christians on the teachings of Yeshua ben Yosef (the true name of Jesus of Nazareth), writings that are considered heretical texts by the church because of their subversive messages about cultivating a personal relationship with the divine. I came to my understanding of Christ consciousness through the Gnostic gospels. Christ consciousness is not a religion but a mystical practice of enlightenment, evolution, and transformation through the path of oneness, and it’s something I have written and taught about extensively.
Last night I conducted a bit of bibliomancy. While I hadn’t opened up the Nag Hammadi texts in a while, I do often have them near me. Most frequently, because the book is so thick and tall, I use it to prop up my lightbox tarot sign when I’m reading at markets in public in Austin. I’m laughing at myself typing this. The idea is that I might feel moved to read it during downtime at the markets, but again, that has not really happened. This past weekend was a particularly busy one at the market I was working, and I grabbed a stack of notecards so that I could create signup sheets for people who were waiting for a reading, and at the end of the weekend, I put the unused cards into a section of the book and packed up to go home. Last night I decided to pick up the book and open it to where the notecards were to see what guidance I would encounter “randomly”.
I had stuffed the cards into a chapter of the Gospel of Philip, among the most notable and complete of all the surviving Gnostic gospels, and I was on a page I had marked and quoted in my class Reclaiming Christ and here on Substack last year. There’s no such thing as coincidences, in life or in bibliomancy, so I felt compelled to record and share a reading of this section with you all.
The passages are particularly relevant considering the election this week. For most of us reading this, I would guess that the outcome of the election was not a surprise, but the pain of it is still real. The coming years will fundamentally change us. There are things that we will lose that we cannot get back. This time will ask from us a level of resilience, ingenuity, and collaboration that we have not seen before.
This passage gets to the heart of why that is. Of what will be expected from us. What we are seeing on a national and global stage is that what we repress and deny and make subliminal must be brought to the surface in order for it to be addressed. When we settle for just getting by or solely trying to prioritize our own comfort or needs, evil is allowed to fester. Evil’s place in this world is to polarize us into alchemy and action. It shows us where to pour our hearts into. It shows us what needs to be preserved and what needs to be snatched out at the root.
Right now our ancestors are screaming at us for our attention. To do the work we need to do to resolve these timelines. This is why consistency in your own tried and true spiritual practices is essential right now. The messages will be overwhelming. Things will move quickly. Due to the north node being in Pisces starting in January, there will be a heightened surge towards cults and delusion. You must know yourself, your skills, and guidance intimately to keep from being taken over by the noise. Morning and evening practices are requirements for those who want to be of service and in alignment with truth. Prayer, working with wise and well ancestors, calling in interdimensional kin and our highest and best guides will be needed.
This isn’t about fear. This is about seeing what’s in front of us and no longer averting our eyes from the responsibilities we have to upholding truth. It’s about stepping into the power you have denied yourself out of comfort or confusion or despair. I know you can feel this call. It’s why I was recently urgently guided to share about my own daily practices with you here. Having already been engaged in an intensive protocol with my guidance before the election has kept me energetically even and focused in a way that would have been much more difficult without it. Every bit of attention matters.
Consistency is everything right now. What is a tangible step you can take to prepare your foundations, nervous system, spiritual practice, or community today?
The night of the election:
The night of the election, my roommate and I had a couple people over. We gathered with intention, though it was a soft and sweet evening. We made dinner. We played a board game. We made Shrinky Dinks. We stayed off our phones (mostly) and didn’t watch election results. It was just the kind of gathering I needed. One focused on what was important: Community. Feeding and loving each other. Staying present and in the moment.
When I went to bed that night I didn’t know who won. Near the end of the evening, we had discussed checking the results while we were all together, but we ultimately decided not to. Perhaps to preserve the sanctity of the energy that was shared, the simplicity and wholeness of it. The next day was my birthday. I found out the result when I woke up and saw a text from a friend:
As unfortunate as it was, it did make me laugh. And truth be told, I felt very clear that morning, that whole day. I still do. At our little gathering, I would occasionally think about how parallel our time together felt to the ending dinner scene of Don’t Look Up (2021). Even knowing in my heart the change that would be coming, I felt strongly the sense that even at the end of the world, no moment spent sharing in love is wasted.
If there is a part of you that sees this moment as one of possibility, then hold on to that feeling. That is the way through. I am no accelerationist, but we are where we are. This is a time of clearing the way. To grieve and to renew. Your creativity and your genius is needed. Do not look away from this chance, this opportunity, this responsibility, this burden. We are all here now for a reason. Let us wake up to our purposes so that we can begin to create a parallel world that our children and our children’s children can not just survive, but thrive in.
The last dance of Pluto in Capricorn:
Pluto moves into Aquarius for really real on November 19th. In its last several weeks at 29 degrees of Capricorn, it has left no one unscathed. I wrote back in September about what we could expect from this time, and much of what I said has proven itself to be true. Looking back at Pluto’s movements through my first house, where it has been since 2008, is one of the things that taught me about the realness of astrology. Every movement tracked with a transformation in my life. It turned me inside out. Perhaps one day I will write more about the specifics of it. It has not been an easy ride. But in the last few weeks, I have gotten to know its wisdom on a whole other level. For those who wish to integrate its lessons, the way to manage Pluto at your door is to not try to hide from it. It dances in shadow as a way of being. It is sure-footed there. It will find you while you stumble around trying to hide in the dark. Pluto wants to see you in your power. It strips all bare to mine the gold. If there is a way to share in the riches, it is to humble yourself before it as you take its medicine. You will face initiations, asked for or not. As it digs deep, it brings destruction. Pluto reminds us that darkness is a thorough teacher that not all survive. This is why we need each other in these times, to know what we live for and to create networks of care that support us when we can’t go it alone.
This transit is long; 19 years it will spend in Aquarius. The American, French, and the beginning of the Industrial revolutions all occurred the last time Pluto was in Aquarius (1777-1798). Its time there will allow us to unshackle ourselves from the conservatism of its transit in Capricorn, but we can’t simply treat this as some sort of free love reset button. Aquarius is the eccentric humanitarian genius of the zodiac, but this sometimes lends itself to a calculating aloofness. An example of this is how in 1791, the guillotine was invented to be a more humane form of capital punishment. The Age of Aquarius could be destined to bring a level of peace unseen in our history (like could we finally make contact with aliens? Or scientific discoveries that save our planet from climate change?), but along the way beware of thought experiments paid in human lives.
Dancing deeply with Pluto is not for everyone. I am a Plutonian, a Scorpio with Pluto (which rules Scorpio in modern astrology) conjunct my sun. I was born and lived most of my life in a city right on my Pluto line. I was birthed from lava and light. Even still I speak to Pluto with grace, dignity, and deference. As we spend these last few days with it in Capricorn, reflect on what you have learned, and thank it for its time there. As you honor the changes in yourself, make room to see yourself in a new light as it starts its next journey in your life.
Do you know where Pluto falls in your chart? If you don’t, book a session with me and I can help you break down some of the coming changes. I also have a whole class about Pluto available in my shop, where I’m currently running a 25% off sale with the code SCORPIOSZN. The sale ends November 19th. You can also become a paid supporter of my Substack with a free trial this month.
Take care of yourselves, and each other.
